HISTORICAL RENT INCREASE GUIDLINES FOR RESIDENTIAL TENANCIES IN ONTARIO
For residential tenancies a landlord may increase a current tenant's rent once per year by an amount not to exceed the rent increase guideline.
Normally, the rent increase guideline includes a base increase of two per cent, plus an amount for increases to landlord operating costs. In 2004 the provincial government announced that the 2005 guidline would include only an amount for operating cost increases.
The 2005 and historical guidline increases since 1996 are set out below.
